The Feng Shui Fish Series
The Chinese word for gold fish is Kum Yu, which means gold in abundance. In the practice of Feng Shui, gold fish symbolize abundant good fortune. There are three guidelines in displaying the fish image in the home in order to create prosperity:
1. There should be nine fish; the number 9 indicates heaven on earth.
2. Eight of the fish should be gold, one black. The black, yin colored fish balances the 8 gold, yang fish, ensuring prosperity and protecting against loss.
3. Placement in the home: For maximum good luck place the image in the north part of the living space or in the east or southeast. Never place gold fish in the south.
Artist's note: As you look into the paintings you may only see a few of the fish near the surface as I have purposely covered and abstracted others from view yet all nine are represented.
